This one is from Cornflower. Fill the gaps with the titles of books you’ve read recently. I can never resist having a go, then finding it really hard.

I began the day by Housekeeping,

before breakfasting on Chocolate Wishes

and admiring Flowers on the Grass .

On my way to work I saw Celia’s House,

and walked by The Memory Garden

to avoid Dennis & Co.,

but I made sure to stop at China Court.

In the office, my boss said, Now You May Weep,

and sent me to research The Strange Fate of Kitty Easton.

At lunch with Royal Harry

I noticed The Two Mrs Abbotts

in The Town House,

greatly enjoying The Town in Bloom.

Then on the journey home, I contemplated Life, the Universe and Everything

because I have Great Expectations ,

and am drawn to Magnificent Obsession .

Settling down for the evening in Weatherley Terrace,

I studied How to be a Woman

by Glimpses of the Moon,

before saying goodnight, My Dear Charlotte.

This is from Cornflower. Fill the gaps with the title of a book you’ve read in the past year. Not easy!

I began the day with Toast
On my way to work I saw Grey Mask
and walked by A Place of Secrets
to avoid The Shooting in the Shop
but I made sure to stop at The Ivy Tree
In the office, my boss said Dearly Beloved
and sent me to research Past Mischief
At lunch with William
I noticed Jerry
under The Dark of Summer
then went back to my desk Dancing Backwards
Later, on the journey home, I bought Biddy’s Secret
because I have High Wages
then settling down for the evening, I picked up David Copperfield
and studied Dickens
before saying goodnight to Doreen

Here's a little idea from Simon at Stuck in a Book.

1. The book I'm currently reading: on the Kindle, David Copperfield and Rewards & Fairies, both re-reads.
2. The last book I finished: Dickens by Claire Tomalin
3. The next book I want to read: Mourn not your Dead, Deborah Crombie
4. The last book I bought: the Claire Tomalin
5. The last book I was given: can’t remember!

From [livejournal.com profile] glitterboy and others

The book I am reading: Mariana by Monica Dickens, my second attempt. Re-reading Cranford on the Kindle in bed.
The book I love most: Middlemarch
The last book I received as a gift: Lily Alone, Jacqueline Wilson, last month.
The last book I gave as a gift: shamefully can’t remember.
The nearest book: on my desk, The NCC Book List of Children’s Series Fiction

This is from all over the place. Bold the ones you've read, italicize those you've dabbled with (read a portion/watched a film rendition/read an abridged version).

This is an absolutely fiendish meme which originated with [livejournal.com profile] loganberrybunny and which I got from [livejournal.com profile] huskyteer. Here are the rules:
Create a Spotify playlist containing exactly 100 songs. There are no limits on genres, content, length etc. Instrumentals are fine. However, you may only choose one song per artist, and one artist per song.

I love Spotify (it's free!) but I've only used it to play something I fancy hearing or that someone has recommended. Thanks to technical help from kind hearted [livejournal.com profile] huskyteer I have at last compiled this playlist of 100 songs. It's hard to choose! It's just today's list! And here's just some of the things I couldn't have:

Any Beatles
Kate Bush, Running Up That Hill
John Lennon, Jealous Guy
Bill Oddie, Harry Krishna
Alexei Sayle, Hello John, Got a New Motor?
Sonny and Cher, I Got You Babe
The Eagles, Desperado
The Move
The Roches, Bad For Me
Mike Sarne, Come Outside
The Teddy Bears, To Know, Know, Know Him
Richard Thompson, See My Friends
Leroy van Dyke, Walk On By
Mireille Mathieu, La Dernière Valse

children's fiction
The internet turned me into a kidlit buff. I still enjoyed reading some children's books as an adult and I’d picked up quite a few at jumble sales and book fairs. What the internet gave me was more information (I had no idea how many books some series writers had written), the opportunity to buy scarce books and above all, contact with other enthusiasts, some of whom became good friends. Under my new rules, books are supposed to be one in, one out but of course I keep looking wherever I go. Sadly, they are much harder to find these days.

Oh, my second post of the day already. [profile] sloopjonb has a meme to come up with a quote because yesterday was (apparently) Chaucer’s deathday. I did The Pardoner’s Tale for A-Level and this has always stuck in my head:

…for I ne can nat finde
A man, though that I walked in-to Inde,
Neither in citee nor in no village,
That wolde change his youthe for myn age;
And therefore moot I han myn age stille,
As longe time as it is goddes wille.
No deeth, allas! Ne wol not han my lyf;
Thus walke I, lyk a restless caityf,
And on the ground, which is my modres gate,
I knokke with my staf, bothe erly and late,
And seye, “leve moder, leet me in!
Lo, how I vanish, flesh and blood and skin!
Allas! Whan shul my bones been at reste?...”

That knocking with the staff is such a powerful image I've never forgotten it. I get so annoyed when people use the word 'medieval' as though it meant 'primitive'.

Comment on this post.
I will give you a letter.
Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

She’s given me the letter ‘M’. You're very welcome to comment, whether or not you want a letter!

Meryon Fairbrass. Descended from Sussex pirates, he is tough, handsome, clever, amusing. You’d think he was too good to be true except that his creator, Monica Edwards, based him on a real life boy whom she said was all that and more. Forms one of the Westling foursome with Tamzin, Rissa and Roger.

Mary of the John & Mary books by Grace James. She’s sensible, realistic, more of a Martha, really. One of the reasons I like her so much is that I feel all the characters in the books and the author herself preferred John.

Miss Mole. Not really a favourite character but a good excuse to push again the novels of E H Young, which I enjoy so much. A single woman with no money, dependent on dreary work but finding happiness by defying convention. A much better book IMO than Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.

Mrs Morland, ‘happily widowed’ writer of detective stories. She features in many of Angela Thirkell’s Barsetshire novels, starting with High Rising. Apparently vague and disorganized (her hair is always coming down); actually hard working single mother of four boys. Her son Tony is much fancied by aficionados.

Jonathan ‘Jonah’ Mansel, cousin of Berry in the novels of Dornford Yates. War hero, ace driver of only the best cars, murderer (only murders villains, so that’s OK), a man of wealth and taste.

This is from [profile] mimmimmim. I have never watched a single one of her programmes! Mine are sadly predictable.

a. Post a list of 10 TV shows you love (current or canceled);

The Antiques Roadshow. Never miss.
Gardeners' World when Geoff Hamilton presented it but not since, although I still half watch it.
Have I Got News for You
Frasier
Life on Mars
Yes, Minister
AbFab
The Phil Silvers Show (Bilko)
Noggin the Nog
Trevor's World of Sport and anything else written by Andy Hamilton

I've forgotten some and missed out a lot.

b. Have your friends list guess your favorite character from each show;
Go on, then!

c. When guessed bold the line and write a little bit about why you like that character;
I might.

d. Post in your own livejournal.
Sure thing.
