Now that we've all shared the 11 a.m. silence:

A silk postcard from the First World War, made for the troops in France to send home. This says on the back, 'To dear Ada from Bert with love'. Bert was my husband's great uncle, who survived the war and was very old when I knew him. Like most of that generation, he never said anything about his experiences.

That is a beautiful card and brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad he survived. x

I have several of the cards, which Ada gave me. I've treasured them.

What a special thing to have.

The only person I knew who served in the first war was my great-grandfather. He had two missing fingers. He never talked about it either.

person I knew

Yes, this is what makes the remembrance so special. Although it was so long ago, the fact that I knew my own Grandad, who fought in WW1, brings it all closer.

Isn't it nice? Some of the cards are patriotic, like this one, others more romantic, with flowers, lucky horseshoes etc.
