Flower Watch

There are no birds in the garden so I am watching flowers instead. Much easier as they don't move about much. Here is what is flowering now.

Cyclamen coum
Chamomile
Heathers
Hellebores
Lonicera fragrantissima
Mahonia japonica
Primroses
Rosemary
Snowdrops

Flower arrangers used to puzzle their brains over how to display hellebores indoors. They came up with all sorts of fiddly methods like dipping the ends of the stalks in boiling water (doesn't work). Nowadays most people float them in a shallow, preferably black bowl, like this.

Those are pretty. My MIL does that with the flowers from her camellias.

Thank you. Yes, it is very effective and much better than kneeling down in the mud and holding the flower heads up so you can look at them properly. I like the spotty ones.
