I've always loved that title! I was reading Wings Over Witchend recently, in which that admirable girl Peter opened her bedroom window before going to bed even though there was snow on the ground outside. We've gone soft. It is blowing gales here, especially at night, and we're on a hill with nothing between us and Dorchester. One of my bedroom windows has locked itself so that I can't shut it further than 'night vent'. So the wind (and rain) blow in. Brr.

I try to keep my bedroom window open on the vent for as long as possible, but eventually I do give in and close it. Although I thought that I wasn't going to be able to shut it a while ago - it's been very stiff and it just wouldn't close at the bottom. Then I thought of oiling the runners, which worked a treat. If only my boiler could have been fixed so easily.

It has to be very cold for me to shut the window completely. I did give it a go with Mr Sheen a couple of days ago, but no luck. Still, if I would just summon the energy to phone the man who put the window in, he would probably fix it for nothing, which beats paying for a new boiler.
