TV watch: The Piano

Channel 4’s The Piano is exactly the sort of programme I would expect to hate but because I love the piano, I watched the first episode and was pleasantly surprised. Yesterday, though, I thought, ‘Oh no, same old format every week; this is going to get very dull.’ Did I cry when the blind girl played Chopin? Of course I did.

There’s one thing about this programme which they really should change. Claudia Winkleman constantly describes Lang Lang as ‘the greatest pianist in the world.’ He is not.

I started watching The Piano last week and loved it (apart from Claudia Winkleman who irritates me half the time). This week was good and like you I cried when the blind girl, Lucy, played. The guys were blown away, especially Mika who was on the verge of tears the entire time. As well as Lucy I thought the boy, Daniel, gave a stunning performance. The players are so diverse and I love the stories behind all of them.

How do you remember all their names? I liked the chap who played 'pub' piano.
I must be the only person who hadn't heard of Mika but I'm impressed by him.

I think doing so much ancestry and having to remember so many names does help :)

The pub piano chap was great, good call on stopping him from singing :)

Mika is one of those artists who has a world wide following without always being main stream, if you know what I mean. I've always liked him.
