When blood is nipp’d

The temperature first thing was -5 and frost is still thick on the ground. Tomorrow may be even colder and guess what? We are having ‘a scheduled power cut for routine maintenance’. How on earth is a cold, old person like me to keep warm? Those of you who live in towns and cities, does this ever happen to you?

I’m dressed for the weather today in a new, very thick jumper from the White Stuff summer sale and fleece-lined joggers from Uniqlo. I really recommend these!

A neighbour also recommended Uniqlo to me, but she said they were Chinese, and I didn't like the idea of Chinese children working in sweatshops. I'm glad to discover they are Japanese. Will definitely check them out now!

Yes, definitely Japanese and boasting of their green credentials. You have to be careful with their sizing. When I started buying from them I bought XS, then S and now I get Medium. They've introduced a 'what's my size?' feature online, which seems to work well. Another thing with them is that items tend to sell out very quickly but they do come back in stock, so it's worth checking regularly if you see something you like.

Oh no, poor old you. It was sub zero here last night and the frost has remained all day. We do get power cuts here but they are short and infrequent. I've never known one during freezing weather although I'd be warm even if we did as this flat is fairly warm even without heat. A thick jumper and fleece lined joggers are just the ticket - and mayve a duvet? I hope you manage to remain comfortable.

You are lucky not to have many power cuts. I suppose this house is rather exposed, so doesn't stay warm, even with the thick walls and the thatch. I'm relying on tea and hot water bottles!
