Everyone seems agreed that the rollout of the booster vaccine is not going as smoothly and efficiently as the first vaccines we had earlier in the year. I got fed up with waiting for my promised letter and booked online. After entering my postcode, I found a bizarre list of places to choose from: small pharmacies six miles away (why not any of our local ones?) or, if I fancied making a little holiday of it, a trip to the Isle of Wight. I have booked for next week and am hoping that having the Pfizer vaccine rather than the one I had before will have no ill effects.

My booster invitation and actual jab was timely and efficient but it's obviously not the case for everyone. The flu jab on the other hand has not been a good experience for me. The GP has been next to useless and every pharmacy I tried had long waiting lists but Boots finally came up trumps and were extremely helpful. I understand that now there are walk-in Covid pop up centres for the booster. I had Pfizer for all my vaccines and I think it's the preferred choice for most people for the booster.

What about people who can't?
Exactly. It's the same with the flu vaccine. The earliest my surgery could offer me a flu jab is 17th November. I usually have it in October so I was feeling a bit vulnerable without it especially since I had some sort of flu that year I was so ill and it was found I'd had pneumonia and had fluid on the lung. It was stressful trying to get in touch with pharmacies (no one answers the phone for ages as they are busy) but once I contacted Boots they were terrific and had much earlier dates. Not everyone has the mental wherewithal to sort these things out alone.

This. I had to organise my flu jab through Boots. To be fair Guys were fabulous about my third jab. Computer kept saying no because I’m under 50 and it was less than six months since my second but I had a letter saying third jab now. The lovely lady at Guys said I can see your consultant wants it done now and overrode the system. Apparently I can expect an additional booster in the spring.

From what I've read, Moderna is the best (and Pfizer takes second place).
