I see that today Talking Pictures is showing a film (1945) based on Dorothy Whipple’s novel They Were Sisters. It’s a bleak book, about three marriages. The least fortunate sister has a bullying husband, played in the film by James Mason. I’ve no idea what this film is like but Whipple fans (count me one), may be interested.

Thanks for the heads up, I usually love the old films. I've set the box to record it (clashes with Strictly!)

It only gets two stars but with James Mason in, it can' be that bad!

I watched it. The plot was okay but my goodness the acting was frightful. I had a fit of giggles several times :)

Heh. It was better than I expected but my expectations were low. The children were a problem, I thought.

The dog was a better actor than the children! James Mason was good, as was Phyllis Calvert. It did entertain me so all was not lost :)

Talking Pictures Tv is the best channel since the demise of CARLTON CINEMA.

Dozens of good films on every day and often repeated.I always check them out.

SUDDEN FEAR with Joan Crawford on soon.
Bette Davis in Another Mans Poison.
His Girl Friday with Cary Grant.

And lots of b movies and eccentric comedies.

I do agree; I always check it out, too. I love old films like The Wicked Lady. I watched one last week: Very Important Person with James Robertson Justice, Leslie Phillips and Stanley Baxter.

His Girl Friday is one of my favourite Cary Grant films but as I have it on a DVD I needn't rely on Talking Pictures.
