...Now that April's there
Apr. 6th, 2007 12:54 pmToday there was a book sale at Upton House. It's not far to go and there was Blackthorn in the hedges, lambs in the fields and a haze of young green on the oak trees. The book sale was very quiet and friendly. Some people carried boxes and exchanged shy, conspiratorial smiles with other box carriers; smiles which meant, 'I am a bookaholic and so are you'. The grounds are lovely and there are some pictures after the cut.

Date: 2007-04-06 09:03 pm (UTC)The first time I went to one of these sales I got a hardback Chalet, a Malcolm Saville 1st in dw and a hardback Monica Edwards. Nothing like that today, alas. They have mostly modern stuff and paperbacks but prices are keen so it's easy to fill your box. I got some gardening books for resale at our next NCCPG meeting: one charity making money out of another, then perhaps the person who buys from my stall will give a book to a charity shop and so the recycling goes on. Also stocked up on Elizabeth George Inspector Lynley stories. I'm always rubbishing these but I keep on reading them. Then there was Penelope Fitzgerald, Anne Tyler, Niall Ferguson, the Jacqueline du Pré biography by her siblings and some run of the mill children's paperbacks.
It was still a pleasant little jaunt, even without great finds.
