I’ve had these three pots of succulents in the wire tray for quite a while now. They’re right outside the kitchen door, where they get a good baking. A couple of weeks ago I was just thinking what a pity it was that I didn’t always have a few spare bricks lying around as I used to, to stand the tray on. Then I remembered that there were plenty of terracotta pots not in current use and hey presto! A big improvement and one of the plants has just started flowering. (The big shadow is from the hose reel.)

Eat your hearts out, purveyors of expensive, vintage shabby chic. That basket, containing three clay pots and some very manky herbs, cost me about a pound from the clearance trolley at the garden centre.

What a clever girl you are, B! A bargain for the plants as well. I have a small succulent garden in three tall terracotta pots that fit together, the plants have never had a flower like your one though, it's a triffid!

I've only just dixcovered this comment, while I was doing an archive search. LJ can't have notified me as they usually do.

Triffid is right! I wish the flowers lasted longer.
