Tottering down the garden path

callmemadamA few days ago huskyteer thoughtfully sent me a link to Lidl’s site, where they were offering these clogs. for £2.99. I’m too late now but I was tempted. It’s so useful to have a pair of clogs by the door when you just want to pop out to hang out the washing or pull up a weed you’ve noticed. I do have a pair but they are proper wooden ones and I always feel somewhat precariously balanced on them. How women used to manage pattens I can’t imagine. For more boots

Miss Jekyll's gardening boots, painted by Sir William Nicholson. What I'd really like is something like the ones modelled here by Vita Sackville-West.
Knowing her, though, they were probably bespoke. Plus, I would need her legs, which Virginia Woolf said were 'the most remarkable thing about her'. Mine are on the stumpy side. So here to round off are Callmemadam's boots!
