Flower of the week: flowering cherry

This cherry tree is at the front of my house (which is really the back), where it can be seen from the road. I’ve no idea of the variety. There’s something very pleasing about the mass of white blossom on bare branches, seen against a pale blue spring sky. When the leaves do emerge, they’re a coppery colour and in autumn there are large, dark red, inedible fruits.

Beautiful! I do love cherry, it's a very pretty tree and I agree that it looks wonderful against a blue sky. We don't have any blossom trees in the garden which is a shame.

It is pretty, and like snow when the petals start falling. I took the photo a couple of days ago and we haven't seen blue sky since!

It's still glorious here although the weather people keep warning of cloudier skies and cooler temperatures. It's a heady 15°C at the moment and positively warm on my patio :)

Huh. It was sunny this morning but is dark and windy again this afternoon.

Cherry Tree

The house I grew up in in Pennsylvania had a huge, and I mean HUGE, Japanese cherry tree in the back yard. When it was in bloom, people used to come by just to look. We children used to love to play under the branches whether blooming or not. Years later I went back and found that it had been cut down to build an apartment building. Sinful!

The plants may think it's spring but the weather thinks it's winter :-(
