RIP Mr. Acker Bilk

I wrote something about him here. How the famous people of my youth are disappearing! Jack Bruce is another recent loss.

I had that single. A lovely soulful sound. He was a brilliant clarinet player and it's so sad that another one from our musical past has now gone.

I saw Akker in concert at Snape 12 years ago - but what an evening; just before the concert my husband and I strolled along the reeds and slipped and were covered in river silt ... we really smelled awful, but we cleaned ourselves up in the ladies and gents and went into the concert, very sheepishly!
But I also had the record of Stranger on the Shore ... indeed, I'm old enough to remember the children's drama series for which it was the signature tune.
