I was sorry to hear that Elizabeth Jane Howard has died. It was cheering to know that a ninety-year-old woman was still alert, writing (and smoking!), even though she needed live-in help. The obituaries are full of her marriages and love life (colourful) and of Cazalets (not her only novels). I absolutely love the Cazalet series, as you can see here and I’m on the library waiting list for the last instalment, All Change. Elizabeth Jane Howard was a well known writer long before the Cazalets appeared. Try After Julius and Odd Girl Out.

It is sad news. She was still writing for three hours a day and was halfway through her next book!

A remarkable woman. Keen gardener, too!

I was sorry to hear that news, too.
I began reading her when I was in my early twenties (The Beautiful Visit, The Long View, The Sea Change and Something in Disguise), and enjoyed her autobiography, Slipstream.

Slipstream is really interesting isn't it? And shows how much in the Cazalet chronicles was based on her own experience.

Oh, such a loss! I am a huge admirer, too. She will certainly be missed.

Sad news, and now today we hear we've lost Phil Everly, too. :-(
