... as the (not very well kept) secret is out that Peter Capaldi is to be the next Doctor. An older doctor! Grey hair! Terrific actor. I can’t wait.

He is a terrific actor but I can't get enthused yet. He's not what I expected or what was in my mind's eye. I feel they missed an opportunity for a woman or black Dr. Basically I think they chickened out.

But I think he'll be convincing as someone who's been knocking around the universe for centuries, which is what I've missed with the recent doctors. They just haven't been weird enough. Also, sorry, I could never have done with a female Doctor.

It would have been very interesting to see if Steven Moffatt had the guts to have the male companion slap the female Doctor. I suspect not somehow.

I might have started watching if they had picked Richard Ayoade. I don't know how long I would have lasted, though. Dr Who and I just don't go together. :)

We've just seen him in the second (and sadly, probably last) season of The Hour. He was fantastic in the role.
