I went to the market this morning without a coat and was *cold*. No luck today, just fruit. Last week though, I got a haul of old paperbacks including these with fabulous cover art. John Buchan as you've never seen him before.

Ten books for £2.00, including a Miss Silver, The Ivory Dagger, which I didn't have. I've just finished The Ivy Tree; it's a good thriller. Today on the way home I was singing along to Just Like A Woman on SOTS and carried on when I stopped off for a paper. Eccentric, moi? No one turned a hair.

Oh these are fabulous! I enjoyed The Ivy Tree as well - got it in one of the recent republished editions. Love the Patricia Wentworth!

I think they're great! I was tempted by The Book People's ten for £9.99 Mary Stewart books but I have a few already so it doesn't seem worth it, even for a nice matching set. As if I had room for any more books, anyway.

I've decided to get the kindle edition of a couple I haven't got - won't fill up space that way!

Oh rats and double rats, I didn't know Mary Stewart was on Kindle! I just went to remind myself what The Ivy Tree was about, and saw that it was set in my part of the country, so I bought it. I have bought 14 Kindle books in a month (read as a loud wail)! Admittedly quite a few were in the summer sale, and two were dull things for work, but I wish I could wire up an alarm to the one-click button (well, no I don't, but I mustn't buy any more books until Christmas...)

Those covers are amazing, I do envy you your market buys.

That's news to me, too! So far I've managed to get most of my Kindle downloads free. You could have worse vices, you know. Or disable one click.

The market is very hit or miss but it is just about the only place round here where you just might find older books.

You like Miss Silver, too? She's a big favourite of ours and we have them all, I think. She always makes me go and get out my knitting, because a cardigan for her niece, Ethel Burkett, often 'depends from her knitting needles' and that always puts me in the mood for knitting! :) That was a good haul! Sorry you were cold, though. The weather is so changeable... :o(

Miss Silver is obviously a much better knitter than I am because she never seems to need a pattern!
I think there are still three or four books I don't have. When I started reading them I was amazed to find out how many there are.

I've just come home from a haul of five Miss Silvers (reprints with less attractive covers), one of which was 'Out of the Past'. I'm off to check I haven't bought doubles. I also purchased a Jane Shaw's Susan (for 25p!!!) and need to check whether that's a doubler or if it is, if it's in better shape than the one I already own. Although The Ivy Tree isn't my favourite Mary Steward, she's always a good read.

Nice finds! There are so many Miss Silvers that I have a catalogue but, stupidly, no list to carry around with me. Most of mine are those Coronet ones with photographic covers, not very pretty.

I have lists, but I've got out of the habit of carrying them with me.

I like the recent 'vintagey' illustrated reprinted paerbacks. I own one hardback which has a much more attractive dust jacket than the ugly photographs.
