The words of a chap who’s still a fan after all these years.
I missed a programme on Radio 4 yesterday and just caught up with it on the iPlayer. It’s called Falling for Françoise and describes how John Andrew and other teenage boys (Malcolm McClaren, for example) fell for Françoise Hardy in the early 1960s. Andrew sets off down memory lane, meets other fans (not all male, I’m pleased to note) and even gets to interview his heroine. Bob Dylan was apparently also an admirer and sang Just Like A Woman and I Want You to her in his dressing room; you need to hear her tell the anecdote. One of those amusing and interesting little programmes Radio 4 does so well. And Françoise sounds so nice.

Ooh! I watched No Direction Home (again!) last night but missed this. I will watch it later :-)

Ha ha I watched part of No Direction Home the other evening, even though I have the DVD.
The radio programme is only half an hour and cute.

Thank you so much for this! Have been a big fan of Françoise Hardy for years, though I'm sure you're hardly surprised to hear that ;)

She really was a beauty wasn't she? I remember her 60s music, in particular, very well.

She still is! I think she looks lovely now and she's even older than I am.

I hadn't known her music but I really enjoyed the radio programme. She does seem like a nice person, I agree.

There's quite a lot on YouTube. All Over The World is a song she recorded in English. Her best known song is still Tous les Garçons et les Filles de mon Âge. I have a nice CD of her songs.

All the boys fell for her, while we girls wanted to look like her. Didn't quite make it though. :<)

If only...
What was it with boys and French girls? If anyone had a French penfriend over, the boys flocked around.

I enjoyed this programme, too. I was painting my daughter's bedroom wall last Saturday and it was lovely to listen to this at the same time. I wish Radio 4 would do more of this kind of thing and less endless political analysis. Nicola@vintagereads

I loved her music too. Probably too late for the programme.

Shame, it was a good little programme. I was singing her songs to myself for ages afterwards.
