I've been too sad and mad to keep my journal up to date lately but here's some pics of books and knitting.
I wish my photos were as good as [profile] minniemoll's. First some glimpses of the book room.

This is just a small selection of what's in there and ignores all my other bookshelves...

Now two recently finished knitting projects.

Scarf!

Socks!

Lovely pictures. And I think we might have the same carpet : )

The carpet is very red! Crimson, I'd call it.

That bookroom used to be my bedroom, folks. The books have a nicer carpet than I used to.

Super socks!

You know what Pa said about the carpet...

Glad you like the socks. I was in the wool shop today and I see they've sold out of that colour of sock yarn.

Camera's working with the new PC, then, good! I think the first pic really needs some model aircraft in it, though.

Yes thanks! Please forgive the omission: I need a wider angle lens to get the full effect.

It would make quite a picture if you had the right lens.

...which no one in this town has got, ho ho.

A bookroom you can see the floor in! Not at all like mine, I have to detour to reach the desk at the moment. Must tidy up so that I can take more photos.

Lovely socks. One day I will do some more.

Nice to see photos.

Give me time. It is still new and shiny.

Bookroom of loveliness! I am deeply jealous and deciding which child I shall evict to make room for a book room of my own.

And knitting of loveliness too. What is the sock yarn?

It might be my favourite place!

Sock yarn is Lana Grossa. It seems to have a colour number but not a name. Self-striping, as you see. The scarf is much better looking than you'd think from the photo. I have noticed people noticing it and felt smug.

There is a desk in there: still bare, thank goodness, as all my paperwork is elsewhere.
Serene: what a good word. Something we should all aim to be.

When my bookroom was first established, I had a very comfy armchair in it. I sat in it that evening, curled up with a glass of wine and a book. Then it filled up with Stuff and I never sat in it again. In the end it had to go....

It's always reassuring to hear about other people's mess!

I am deeply envious. Not only do you have all those lovely "gaily-jacketed" school stories, they are also in pretty bookcases. (I'm sure that in more than one EBD, those "gaily-jacketed" books are in a "low, white bookcase" - just like yours!)

My books live on cheap&nasty "rail" shelves and a couple of mismatched (and unpretty) rather elderly bookcases. And I don't have nearly that many GO books.

Excuse me while I go away and gnaw my own liver. :-)

Should I feel guilty at arousing green thoughts? The book cases are just IKEA Billy, kindly bought and put up for me without the slightest effort on my part. I always imagine EBD's shelves running in alcoves beside a fireplace. We have a lot of superior built-in book cases but also our fair share of unpretty, elderly ones. My Angela Brazils live all by themselves in a quite grotty (but glass fronted) book case which I bought down the market for a tenner and managed to wedge into the car. They look nice and have been accessorised with suitable 1920s figurines. Oh dear, I'll be making you envious again if I'm not careful.

I join the chorus of envy over the book room. Mine are scattered all over the house, and subject to the depredations of those who disagree that books do furnish a room.

Snazzy socks.

Oh, but there are still books scattered all over the house, albeit mostly shelved. Every room is a book room but this one is dedicated.

Glad you like the socks.

When I finally got a futon base to go under the mattress I'd been sleeping on since February, I found a book under the mattress. I'd wondered where it had gotten to. Clearly I am not a princess.

It was Booth's Cocktail Handbook.

And you didn't miss it! I've bought a large bottle of vodka for Christmas.
