callmemadam: (Girl's Own Annual)

Two sepia photographs, printed on card. The one of the woman has '1878' written on the back.

Who were these people and why were their photographs of so little value to anyone that they were left in a book? This always seems sad to me. It's common now to see boxes of photographs for sale and there is a market for them. I've got quite enough old photographs, some of people I can't identify, to want any more. Yet I feel guilty at the thought of throwing them out. So here's a poll.

[Poll #1645889]

I'm so jealous of your finds! Were these both in the same book? If you don't want them, please send them to me! I luuurve old photographs, never mind that I don't know the people portrayed.

Yes, same book, shame I can't remember which one. They're no trouble, safely in the album with the other finds. It's the uncatalogued ones in boxes which prick my conscience.

Are they your boxes? If they are family photos I would keep them if I were you (or give them to an interested relative), but if they are of people you don't know there's no need to feel guilty if you want to sell them. Just please don't throw them in the trash!

Oh yes, and do you have any idea why there are 8 participants and only 6 answers in your poll?

Yes, boxes and indeed suitcases of family photos. I'd never thought of selling them and I don't think I can bring myself to throw them away, so don't worry!

That poll thing. One of the participants was me trying to vote after I'd already looked at other people's votes. I couldn't see the poll in its original form. I think I could do it by logging out. The other, I don't know.

Interesting question. How does one get that "poll" thing? Maybe someone put them in that book then just forgot? As opposed to deliberately discarding them?

A very possible solution.
To do a poll, go to FAQ and find 'poll creator'. I think this may be a 'paid members only' feature.

Yes and I feel the same about throwing out bibles. I do chuck photos that are just holiday views that mean nothing to me.
