Gene Hunt performing Uptown Girl! That’s all I have to say, except that I wish I’d recorded it.

I look forward to seeing this some time! The ABC has finally cottoned on to the fact that putting Dr Who on a bit closer to the British date might be a good idea, but I doubt we'll get Ashes to Ashes for at least six months. I'd willingly pay a BBC licence fee to be able to legally download my favourite programs, as would a lot of Aussies, but territorial copyright probably means it'll never happen. Tragically, we get Songs of Praise on the day it goes out in Britain and yet we've only just got Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

I still prefer Life on Mars to Ashes but I have to watch it for Gene.

Songs of Praise has been downgraded here (they put it on earlier and earlier in the day) so I'm surprised you get it so quickly.

We get it before the UK. It's on very early in the day. Goodness knows who watches it.

There's not much plot progress, as you will find.

But there is an extra special classic Gene moment, which I won't give away...

Wasn't it great! I loved it.

In the third series of A2A they seem to refer much more to Life on Mars than they did in the first two series. I'm beginning to think I am missing important clues because I have never seen LoM.

If you don't get the references to Sam Tyler, you're definitely missing lots!

I know that he "committed suicide" in the present because he wanted to get back to the '70s, and apparently he died in a car crash there, but that's it. Is it enough though?

OK, I've succumbed and ordered the Life on Mars box set from Amazon UK (my library only has the first series and it's constantly taken out). Here's hoping it arrives in time for me to watch it before Ashes to Ashes ends!

I do hope you like it! I got a little tired of Sam towards the end but it's full of good stuff and actually much weirder than Ashes. Plus the music.

I did read that, as with Being Human, they had to replace (some of) the music for the LoM DVD release, because the BBC had only paid for broadcasting rights. (No such problem with Ashes, fortunately.)

At the time I watched one or two episodes and decided it was too testosterone-filled for my liking. But knowing how Gene has developed I think I can handle it now. :)
