Another one gone: Sir Alec Bedser

News today that Alec Bedser has died. Once upon a time all summers were sunny ones, PBH May captained Surrey and England and Surrey always won the county championship. The Oval is still my favourite Test ground.

Stuart Surridge captained Surrey. I'd go to the Oval to watch Test matches; never dared to go to Lord's. It was walk-up, pay a small amount and you were in in the early 60s, none of this internet booking the previous November. And you could wander around and get right to the front, even against the Aussies.

Great days. I was too young to actually see Bedser or May play but Test Matches were always on the radio at home and I followed them avidly.
