Or, the bottle brush bush in my garden. Callistemon flowers are usually bright red. I expect this one is called 'citrinus', 'pallidus' or something suitable but I don't know for sure until I can research it.
I'm writing here, just because I'm not sure how it works with your comments. If I were to comment on an older post, would you be alerted or would you have to happen to be looking through older postings? Anyhow, I've just read a number of your entries, and again, I find myself utterly fascinated. The allotment idea hasn't really caught on over here. Once in a while, I'll read about what they call, 'community gardens' but they sure aren't very prevalent. Sadly, I don't think we are 'a nation of gardeners.' I think people would rather stop and pick up a big fat (and fattening) muffin that isn't the slightest bit like a homemade muffin, than go outside and pick some lettuce. :<( I loved the illustrations from the old magazines. They make me ache with a feeling of nostalgia. Over at the abebooks summer reading choices, I found one of my most favorite books of all time - Trustee from the Toolroom by Nevil Shute. Have you read it? Do you read his books? Pastoral? A Town Like Alice? Beyond the Black Stump? Ordeal? Those are the ones I've read. I am quite, quite sure these books would appeal to you.
Thank you for your kind remarks; I'm glad you enjoyed looking at the journal. Yes, I do get comment alerts from older posts as well as the current one.
You've come to the right place for nostalgia!
Nevil Shute is an author I'm going to get around to. My husband was a huge fan and belonged to the Nevil Shute society. I bought him all the books and have kept them but so far I've only read Pied Piper, which I loved. Shute was a great storyteller.
Gosh, over the years, I've often thought of joining. I find such consistent pleasure in his books. He has such a good way of looking at the world. I've not read the one you mentioned. I think I have read Trustee maybe four times, always with pleasure. Alice, I've just read once, but the tv production was superb - they did a great job with it. And Bryan Brown is not hard to look at either. :<)
