Because the clocks went back last night, I've been up since 5.15. So it was very early this morning when I heard on the radio that Kirsty Young's guest on today's Desert Island Discs is the frighteningly gifted Ian Bostridge. I'm intrigued to learn that one of his picks is Bob Dylan's Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right, one of my favourites. It ain't no use a' looking on the BBC web site because at the time of writing it’s out of date. The programme will be on at 11.15 this morning. I'm there.
Edit I've changed the Dylan link to the original version.

I'm looking forward to it!

We loved last week's with Randy Newman. It's [livejournal.com profile] bisonfish who is the really big fan (he's even met him and corresponded with him) but I thought it was brilliant too.

Oh, shame, I missed Randy Newman. It's such a pity there's no listen again for the programme. Roy Plomley exerts plenty of power from the grave!

He does indeed!

I must have told you about how my dad went out with his daughter, Almond? The last time he rang, Roy told him that Almond was in the bath and would ring back later. As children we were delighted to think that she had probably been in the bath all those years.

As an adult I realize that she probably just didn't fancy him. He met my mother soon afterwards, and fortunately for all of us, she did. But as a child it was inconceivable that somebody didn't find him as wonderful as we did, therefore she must have still been in the bath.

Yes. I'd think that whatever the Plomley estate is asking, it would be worth the BBC paying to have Listen Again rights. People are always writing in to Feedback about it.

Or at the very least, they could air it at some more accessible time. Surely a regular evening slot could be found.

I don't think it's the Plomley estate that's banning "listen again" - I'm fairly sure you can't put "gramophone records" on "listen again" because of the royalty complications.

I expect you're right. Whatever, it's an irritation.
