A ‘bad wrist’ is a good excuse to explain how I’ve managed to read Kate Atkinson’s When Will There be Good News? so quickly. That and the fact that it’s a cracking read. This is the third of her novels to feature likeable Jackson Brodie: ex-army, ex-police and still a man who attracts trouble like Pigpen attracts dirt. Less mysterious than Case Histories; not as busy with plot and characters as One Good Turn, it still grips from the first page to the last, with an unexpected twist at the end. Around page 34 I fell in love with one of the characters and desperately wanted things to come right for her; she’s a remarkable creation. Will we get any more about Jackson? I do hope so.

She was talking about it on the radio, Womans Hour I think, over the last few days ..... might be worth trying to find it on Listen Again?

Oh I hate that. Like when you go to eBay and it says 'welcome to my eBay for Guests'.

Should they be read in order, or is that not necessary? (I have to resist buying them for now, but I'll put them on my to-read list.)

Yes, I would recommend reading them in order. There is some recapping about Jackon's life but I think it would be confusing to start in the middle.

That's interesting. I think I'll read Case Histories next - it's on my TBR pile.

I'm really enjoying them. Robert Goddard crossed with Susan Hill's Serraillier.

I love you in a sari, BTW! Glamorous or what?
