This morning at a boot sale I bought for ten pence a 1944 edition of Mystery at Witchend illustrated by Gretchen Breary rather than Bertram Prance. The spine is flapping but I'll have to keep it. I have far too many Lone Pine duplicates: I'll keep a really grotty old 1st edition as well as a nice reprint in dustwrapper. I also added another O Douglas to my collection, matching the rest, plus a few more books.

Now I'll go and pot up the scented leaved pelargoniums I bought for 50p each. I love boot sales!

I've had a good boot sale weekend too - it must be something in the air! Nothing too exciting for me, but a few good things to sell. I picked up a couple of Evelyn Everett-Greens though - I often find them at bootsales, why do I never find EJOs of a similar vintage? I did pick up a couple of CP Abbeys for 20p each, it seemed a shame to leave them there, but I've not had anything more exciting for ages.

I was less pleased with the wonderful Malcolm Saville when I found it is an inch taller than all the others and won't fit on the same shelf. Now I've found some nice things but hardly anything to sell. I know what you mean about not leaving the Abbey books there. I had to put my hands behind my back to stop myself buying more nice copies of Susan Pulls the Strings and Princess Charming. At 20p I would have done but a pound each is no profit, really. It's hard not to buy everything GO-ish that you see.

I did buy a first pb of School at the Chalet. But it was only 20p. And I may find someone to give it to if I can't sell it. Or I could just put it on the shelf with the other three that are languishing there. Along with about eight copies of Princess.

The pile of first edition Puffins for £1 each was nice, there were some I didn't have, and included in the ones I do already have was Jam Tomorrow, so that's getting listed this afternoon. Along with another pile of stuff I've just photographed - in the garden for light.

Jam Tomorrow

Coo! Well done. A dealer I know who sells at local fairs has collected early Puffins for years and now she's selling off her collection. I wasn't tempted by the last batch she was offering but some were very unusual ones that I'd never seen before: translated from the Dutch, for instance. I've got lots of early Puffins but I find no one will buy them and I won't just throw them out, so they're stuck in the cupboard for the moment.

Give them a try on ebay - I listed a load a couple of months ago, for between £2.50 and £5, and about half of them have sold.

I've been collecting them for a while, largely to satisfy my collecting bug, which has run out of affordable books in all my other authors. They're currently taking up two shelves, double stacked, in the spare room, but may well need more space sometime soon. Once in a while I actually read one ;)
