The current Orange ads are madly irritating. What was Rose Tremain thinking? Money, I expect; I don't blame her. I've enjoyed her books, now her voice is one of several driving me to switching off point. In contrast, Peter O'Toole's 'For All You Are' advertisement for The Sunday Times is uncannily similar yet watchable. 'And in between - I've done a bit of acting'. You terrible old actor, she sa fondly.

I hate adverts and very seldom watch them - I watch at least 95% of my tv via my V+ box these days, so I can fast forward through the ads. If I want to watch something live, I pause it at the beginning of the programme, then start watching later and fast forward. If I really have to watch something live, I turn the sound off.

And I've just discovered that if I watch programmes via the catch up service, they don't have ads in at all, even the Channel 4 ones, so I don't even have to fast forward. This has made me very happy - the Virgin tv service is one of the best things I spend my money on, I feel as though I'm in charge of the tv, instead of it ruling my life. And it records whole series for me with one click! I love it.

You and others are bringing down the advertising industry:-)
I don't subscribe to any service but the Toppi provides Freeview (I watch a lot of ITV 3 these days), records one thing while you watch another, let's you watch the start of the programme you're recording even when it's half way through and is generally wonderful. So yes, I usually white and yellow button my way through the ads these days but sometimes I'm trapped, as when I have Classic FM on.

I like the sound of no ads at all.

I still forget that I can do lots of the things my box does regularly, and find myself waiting for something to finish before I start watching it, or willing something to end so I can go to the loo, but I'm slowly getting used to the brilliance of it all. And I love switching on and looking to see what it's recorded for me.

I can't bear commercial radio, I'd love Classic FM with no ads, but they drive me batty.
