I could not believe my ears this morning. I took a packet to the post office, not my usual one. For added security I had put string round the cardboard. 'Don't use string in future,' I was told, 'they'll cut it off.' What? Would they rather wait until the parcel fell to pieces (not that mine would) and then repack it themselves? 'I don't know. These are new instructions we've been told to pass on. It interferes with the machinery.'

Tsk, only the post before last I was commenting on the usefulness of being able to tie knots. [profile] cybersofa has often said, 'Your family are the only people in the world who still use string on parcels.' I use tape as well but will now have to use twice as much. Which is better, reusable string (sorry, it's the way I was brought up) or yards of plastic? Harrumph.

String, of course - you can't subsequently do macramé with parcel tape.

Quite right.

I was very pleased to recieve a parcel of yarn done up in brown paper and string a while ago, and obviously spent the rest of the day singing selections from The Sound of Music.

But it's not something I'd do, primarily because I have tape but not string.

On a different tack, how did you get the photo to the right of your text? I can only make mine go between text.

Brown paper packages tied up with string. Wish I'd thought of that for a title. They are nice, aren't they? I need to find out if this anti-string policy includes parcels or only applies to packets.

Pictures on the right. I don't know how you put your pictures up. I use the LJ system and paste
Align = "right"
into the img code. I have only just learned this valuable trick.

My veg box comes tied up with string, which always makes me (and the cats) happy. Though I admit to cutting it rather than undoing the knots.

I use raw html, aided by lochjournal, which is a free download from lj, but it's pretty basic and there's no option to align. Whereabouts in the tag do you put the align bit?

Cats, string, boxes. Hours of fun for all the family.

Hmm, the way I do it, LJ offers you a 'browse' option which in my case means selecting a saved file from Paintshop. This then appears on the page as several lines of code. I stick the aligns/spaces etc. in one of the code lines.

I suppose that means I'll have to dispense with the sealing wax too, how disappointing:-)

Hee! Do I sound that old fashioned? I do have a seal but have never used it, sadly.
