Can't help you there!:-) I'm an admirer of Amis as a writer. In this book, a really evil ghost reputed to haunt the house appears because he recognises something of himself in the main character, setting off a terrible chain of events. Library? Charity shop?
Years ago, there was a television version of The Green Man which gave away part of the story in the opening titles. Shocking!
