Not very exciting, as I’ve written about several of these books already. No literary fiction at all this month; I’m right off it and preferring familiarity and reliable entertainment. Today I received this month’s offer of a free book for the Kindle. Six choices and every one seemed utterly depressing.

A lovely reading list! I have only ever read one Nancy Breary. I read it when I was about 12 or 13 and absolutely loved it but I forgot both the name and the author and then a kind soul who knows more about school girl stories than I shall ever know knew the title immediately when I told her about the characters. It is called Give A Form a Bad Name. If you see that anywhere, grab it, it's a lovely story. I believe that Nancy Breary lived close to where we live and also that she is buried in the churchyard in Winchelsea.

We obviously like the same type of book!

I'm just like you with the one Nancy Breary I read as a child. I quoted a remembered line from it, didn't even know the author's name, and someone immediately told me the title: So This is School!. Unfortunately, copies cost far more than I'm prepared to pay so I'm hoping for a lucky find one day. I'd really love to read it again.
