Oh joy! Gloomsbury is here

I’ve written before about the excellence of Sue Limb, and in particular her radio series The Wordsmiths at Gorsemere. That was on so long ago that I have the whole lot recorded on cassettes. So I’m thrilled that she’s taken on another set of literary types in Gloomsbury. The series starts on Radio 4 next Friday morning, an awkward time for a radio date, so let’s hope it will be on Listen Again. It stars Miriam Margoyles as Vera Sackcloth-Vest and Alison Steadman as Ginny Fox. How can it go wrong? Margoyles was also in Wordsmiths, playing Stinking Iris. She’s brilliant in these character roles. If, like me, you find the Bloomsbury crowd a bunch of people who imagined they were forward-looking but were in fact self-obsessed, reactionary snobs, you may look forward to this programme as much as I do. You can read an interview with Sue Limb here.

Yes, this was flagged up on the R4 group on Ravelry. No trailers on R4, though!

We need more Sue Limb.

Goodness, I didn't know there was a R4 group on Ravelry! I'd better join up.

Sue Limb is very underrated, IMO.

I think it was started by the same person who started The Archers one!

I was sad when her Bad Housekeeping column finished in the Grauniad.

Vera Sackcloth-Vest, hahaha! Poor Ginny, I hope Sue won't be too hard on her.

Who are the top-left and top-right actor and actress in the picture? The actress looks like a younger version of Alison.

Hee!

Top left, Jonathan Coy. Top right, Morwenna Banks. She used to do a lot of television comedy which I didn't find funny. Perhaps I'll like her better when she's acting.

Oh delicious, I can't wait! I'd certainly have missed the first, so thank you.

I'm glad so many people are interested. I'm really looking forward to it.
