A Book Quiz, Hard, Very

A Christmas book quiz from Pursewarden via Harriet Devine. Without thinking much or looking anything up (as if) my answers so far are:
Section 1: 0
Section 2: 6
Section 3: 5
Section 4: 6

Pretty hopeless, eh? Have a go but for goodness sake don’t post any answers here as it’s supposed to be a competition.

About to catch a train so my look was pretty cursory, and my scores much the same as yours - section 1 stumped me, too - too modern and American perhaps?

I guess that's it.

Apart from a couple of the detective ones none of them sounded familiar to me and, to be honest, only #9 seemed interesting. So I googled it and put the book on my reading list. :-P

Ha! It did some good, then.

I've now googled all the quotes and one of them is actually from a book I've read and loved! Oops.
