People who’ve read The Burry Man’s Day by Catriona McPherson may be interested to see a contemporary photo of a Burry Man. It’s here on today’s entry by Spitalfields Life. I find it quite terrifying.

That is terrifying!

I have seen the Museum of British Folklore at Sidmouth, but sadly closed whenever I stopped by.

I haven't read that book, so when I had seen the photo I had to go to Wikipedia to find out what a Burry Man is about. What an interesting custom! I was glad to read people volunteer for the job, it sounds like a right ordeal.

I've just noticed that I instinctively wrote 'it' rather than 'him', although there's a man inside.

Gives me the willies. How claustrophobic to be in that costume!

Ugh, no! I didn't like those pictures, either! I must be a mass of previously unsuspected phobias.

The costume must be agony and he's bound to end up drunk, too. Horrid.
