From Where I Sit

Actually, from where I stood at the kitchen window.

Although the days are getting longer the cold weather makes the usable part of the day shorter; a window in the middle before the sun starts to fall and the temperature plummets again. Luckily, it's nice to be warm indoors looking out. Where I'm sitting now I've been watching the deer, apparently grazing quietly in the last of the sun, suddenly start pushing each other about, then bound away. This sort of weather always makes me think of medieval images; some atavistic notion, no doubt. Here's January from Les très riches heures du Duc de Berry.

Oh, what a difference from what I see. All is white outside my windows.

Plenty of people in the UK are looking out at white! Here it's white with thick frost every morning, then some of it thaws during the day. This afternon is quite different, cloudy and damp looking. Heavy snow is forecast but you just don't know whether to believe in it. Unlike you, we're not used to this weather, which is why we go on about it so much!

Oh, we go on and on about it, too. The weather is just about the first thing people meeting talk about. Some complain, some don't, some just discuss.
