Megalomania at the BBC

For a long time now I've been irritated by news bulletins which begin, 'The BBC has learned...', as if the same story were not all over the papers. This morning I have heard already:
'The BBC has learned...'
'Figures obtained by the BBC suggest...'
and the final straw, on the 9 a.m. bulletin 'BBC weather forecasters report that there were strong winds in the Highlands last night.'
a) This is news?
b) No one else noticed?

Yes, all those things.

My pet hate is "Washington has tonight denied ...." and that sort of thing. In my mind a capital city cannot admit or deny anything!

True! And telling us the 'news' in advance, as in,'The Prime Minister will say in a speech today...'. That's just acting as Downing Street's press office. AND taking any old bonkers article from the Lancet or Nature as if it were gospel and we're all going to DIE because our thighs are the wrong size or something.

I'm also fed up with hearing what Prince Charles has to say about everything. Why is his opinion any more valid than those of the people who drive our dustcarts?!

Aargh! Another pet hate. Some poor sod does all the work on the ground in a horrible, dangerous place. Something happens there and Mr Modesty Simpson waltzes in and does the story.
