This and That
Oct. 22nd, 2021 10:56 amMy neighbours will be intrigued because, almost every day for the past fortnight, there has been one van or another parked on my drive. They belong to people catching up with necessary jobs which couldn’t be done during lockdown.
Yesterday, I put a couple of bags of books on the charity shelves in the Co-op. Every other book already there was by Stieg Larsson.
A chap calling at the house to do a job saw a wasps’ nest snuggling under the thatch eaves, right above the kitchen door. I’d never noticed it. George, the nice young pest man, came yesterday to deal with them.
This morning, I went out to bring in the post and, while I was about it, picked up a lot of dead wood which had blown down. I found the remains of a large, dead bird; probably a rook. Just the wings were left. They’re canny birds; I wonder how that one was caught and by what? Possibly the fierce black cat with mad, staring eyes which often hunts in my garden.
I'm re-reading The Forsyte Saga. Goodness, it's slow but I'm in the mood to be immersed in a long book.
