callmemadam: (radio)
I switched on the radio early this morning and decided to tune to Radio 3, which is broadcasting nothing but English music all day ('English' being quite broadly interpreted). The first thing I heard was John of Gaunt's 'Sceptred Isle' speech; they seem to be interspersing the music with patriotic chunks of Shakespeare. Whatever is on at the moment is unspeakably dull but it will be worth staying tuned for all the Purcell and Elgar which should come later. I hope they will also include some of the once-despised 'British light music' and give us Eric Coates, Ronald Binge (sp?) etc. And how about some hymns? This certainly makes a change from the Beeb's usual output.
