I'm often amused by the ways people list their books on eBay. There's WOW! or L@@K! or 'Very Old Book' (published 1960s).
Then there's 'Retro Style' (Children's Press) and Vintage Look. I am particularly charmed by the title of a current auction:
'29 Old Antique Vintage Decor Decorative Books Job Lot
Shabby Chic Look For Interior Decorating Warm Tones'
One way to shift some rubbishy books no one wants, I suppose. You want shabby chic?

There you go. Of course I didn't buy these by the yard and could probably have chosen better examples. I know my readers will want to know what some of the books are, so click on the pic and you can read the titles.

They are much too nice to have been bought by the yard. L@@k is my pet hate closely followed by use of word vintage, rare or collectible (spelt just like that) when they are no such thing.

Poor old Anthony Powell's a bit outnumbered there, isn't he?

I'm so glad you posted larger pictures - it's so frustrating when you can't make out titles!

I've never read any O. Douglas, what are they like?

"A Must for Any Collection!!!!" puts me right off every time. Especially when it's on a Children's Press Abbey book.

And I've seen vintage applied to books published after 1980. I once bought a book from a girl at a car boot sale who must have been at least ten years younger than me. She earnestly explained that it was very old, because she'd had it was she was young....

Lovely to see your books. One day I'll tidy the bookroom enough to take photos of the books up there. But not today, I'm dying of a cold, and very fed up with myself. Bah.

I hate 'collectible', too!

Hee! Yes, women authors predominate on that shelf. Powell's only been moved there temporarily because he's being read, on & off.

A frustration I share!

O Douglas is cosy reading. I like the Priorsford books and struggle with Ann and her Mother and one or two others. I've posted about her before, see tags list.

You have to laugh, don't you?

I have a plan to photograph all the books as it would be as good as a catalogue.

I do hope your cold clears up and you feel better. Ribena!

I think that particular ebayer was trying to hedge his bets and to include every possible adjective. Love your book collection and great to be able to read the titles.
