The other day I bought three skeins of Colinette Enigma in a charity shop. This was a first and I expect it to be a last.

I can't think why this shade is called Burnt Ochre. It reminded me so strongly of the colours of this old Cococub News that I fished it out to see.

I'm still knitting Lily of the Valley but of course I couldn't wait to try out the new yarn. It's a thick and thin tape and Colinette recommend that you use two balls together, to get the variations. I thought it might be hard to knit with but not at all, though different. The biggest problem was winding it into balls. Another problem is that if I have three balls, how will I work with two when I've used up the first ones? This is how it knits up:

This is scheduled to be a sleeveless top but if it doesn't work I'll undo it and make a scarf. Quite fun.

That is lovely and looks like it would be fun to knit into the bargain.

It is; it makes a silky fabric which is quite stretchy.

I saw this yesterday as I was leaving work and then forgot to come back when I got home....

Lucky you, finding Colinette in a charity shop! I did have a good find yesterday (five 100g cones of 4ply wool, three balls of Jaeger Shetland aran, and four balls of pure wool dk for £7.70 the lot) but it wasn't as exciting as yours :)

I haven't used Enigma, it looks pretty though. I do have some Wigwam, which is similar, though not thick and thin, but I became annoyed with it when there was a huge colour change in one skein (yes, I was trying to get away without striping). Although I think that striping that ball would have just made really obvious stripes. I must go back and have another look at it sometime soon.

For the three balls thing, you could stripe the first two until you'd used about half of each, then stripe each remaining half with half of the third ball. Or just knit the third ball from each end in turn, if you've wound it with a centre end sticking out.

I've never done this before but it seems to work quite well; overall there's no pooling. Your first option is the one I've been thinking of. I have trouble getting my noddle round this sort of thing.

Your yarn finds sound pretty good to me! Now I'm off to knit a case for my new camera. Why pay out for a plastic one when you have a yarn stash?

I did think perhaps you had a new camera - the yarn photos were lovely.
