Technicolor garden

200514azalea

I keep walking into the dining room and thinking I’ve left a light on by mistake. The glow in the room actually comes from this azalea. It’s not what I would have planted as I don’t even like azaleas. I certainly wouldn’t have put it in the same sight line as a bright pink weigela which flowers at the same time. But it is rather impressive for a while.

Shocked again

I'm no lover of azaleas or rhododendrons but this azalea is surprising me all over again.

Photo taken from indoors; the colour is rather lurid and shows better in last year's pic. Pity it has no scent but the honeysuckle makes up for it, wafting in through the upstairs windows. Now I'm off to watch another episode of The Chelsea Flower Show.

BTW, what was all that rubbish on the Southern News this morning about the weather being ten degrees cooler today? Forecasters, huh.

Getting to Know You: New Garden part 94

Each month brings surprises in my new garden. There are shrubs here I don't instantly recognise, probably because I've never gardened on acid soil. This is obviously an azalea and I think it may be one called 'Mandarin Lights'. Rather startling. I wish it were PINK. I'm still separated from my gardening books and can't look anything up. Anyone know what this is? )
